I wanted to post some pictures and videos of our latest camping trip. Gus and I are gearing up for our big week long camping trip down in Southwest Colorado!
This is a place where friends and family of Gus can come to check out how he is doing and see how he is growing.

Einstein Syndrome
Gus is finally hitting his terrible twos! While he hasn't had an actual outright tantrum, he seems to be heading that way. He is still pretty easy to take care of, for a 2 year old little boy. He is still struggling with his speech and has a speech therapist visiting him weekly. While he has picked up a ton of words, he still isn't stringing together sentences. At most he says 2 words together. . . with his favorite word as "my".
"My Show!"
"My Truck!"
"My hot dog!" (oh wait, that is three words!)
"My bike!"
"My ball!"
Anyway, the speech therapist classified him as a Late Talker. This doesn't mean much since he is a boy and is only 2 1/2. The speech therapist mentioned something about Einstein Syndrome, but I don't think she was referring to Gus as actually having Einstein Syndrome. She just brought it up because she was reading a book about it. I googled Einstein Syndrome and here are the characteristics:
It is believed that these children talk late because parts of their brain are developing at a faster pace than other children, therefore, their language suffers. This is what they believe happened to Albert Einstein.
There are different aspects of these children's lives that seem to follow a pattern. The children are not social with peers, they are stubborn in nature, potty training usually happens later than other children, they are usually great analytical thinkers. Lastly, they come from the same parental background. Their parents, grandparents and aunts/uncles are in three various professions: musicians, mathematicians (analytical thinkers) and engineering. Most importantly, these children do not suffer from any underlying speech disorders. Their hearing is fine and they do not have motor skills that are affecting their speech. (http://www.squidoo.com/einsteinsyndrome).
Okay, so Gus fits none of the criteria. He is extremely social and he isn't stubborn at all. Gus hasn't even had a tantrum. As for potty training, he is 100% potty trained as far as pooping and has been for nearly 6 months. I'm not sure if he is an analytical thinker, but I know that I'm not a musician, or mathematician or engineer. His dad is jailbird, not an engineer. Gus doesn't have any hearing problems. But I like this explanation way more than any other, so I'll use it!
